NOVA

Thank you for your interest in the NOVA.

NOVA is an award program intended for medical specialists who have devised initiatives that are expected to have significant impact in unmet needs in the field of Ophthalmology.

The objective is to provide funding, in the form of a grant, for non-profit educational or innovative initiatives and projects that are expected to have a positive impact on improving quality of ophthalmic care.

The initiatives/projects must

•provide education with sustainable impact, and/or innovation in clinical practice.
• demonstrate long-term viability and a clear impact on improving the quality of ophthalmic care.
• be led by medical specialists in the field of ophthalmology
• be at a relatively advanced planning stage, simply requiring the NOVA funding grant
• should begin as soon as funding is provided

Applicants must provide details of projects that have already been designed and planned, using the application form (see below).  The applications should be made on behalf of an academic institution or organization, which should endorse the application.The applications must be made in English. The application form must be fully completed. All applications that meet the criteria outlined above as well as in the application form, will be short-listed for consideration by the NOVA committee. Incomplete application forms, or any applications that do not meet the necessary criteria, will not be short-listed.

The NOVA committee comprises of approximately 30 international experts in opthalmology. They will consider all short-listed applications at a committee meeting in August/September 2010. NOVA winners will be notified in September 2010, and listed on www.novartis.com/nova. The award ceremony will take place at the annual CME-accredited AMD and Retina Congress, which takes place in Switzerland this year. Novartis will sponsor the attendance of one winning applicant per award to attend the congress  and to collect the award.
